Dermond Peterson “In situ”- Bora Bora

Recently we asked some of our customers to send in photos of their Dermond Peterson products ‘in situ’; as they actually use them. We’ve gotten some great images as a result and we plan to make this a recurring post.

See below for this week’s photo, and be sure to send in some of your own! Send images to Claire@dermondpeterson.com

Folkloric Seahorse: All About Town

I brought my new Folkloric Seahorse bag with me last week as I was doing errands and just enjoying a beautiful Milwaukee afternoon.

The bag, in black and red, looked absolutely smashing with the black Electra bicycle.

These bags are incredible! You can take them to the beach. Imagine going to the beach in a beautiful black bathing suit with the red and black Folkloric Seahorse bag. Plenty of room for your towel, lotions, cover-up, purse, water, book…And whatever else you might need. But wait, I’m downtown today.

Checking out flowers along Wisconsin Avenue.

Looking down Wisconsin Avenue with the Calatrava and the di Suvero behind me.

Stopping to check out the shops.

Having lunch at Ouzo Cafe with my friend Mary.

The bag is perfect for around town! So sophisticated yet fun. The whimsical feel created by the modulated red seahorses is balanced by the black geometric forms, creating a design reminiscent of a Turkish rug and making it the perfect carry-on bag that can double as a beach bag, boating bag or shopping bag…I can’t wait to use it on my upcoming trip to Turkey!

Art and Tom Go to the West Allis Farmers’ Market

The West Allis Farmers' Market in West Allis, WI

Hmmm, I wonder how many watermelons will fit in my Artichoke bag?

That's a lot of tomatoes!

All filled up! Time to go home and cook dinner.

Folkloric

This post is by Susan Peterson

In designing for Dermond Peterson over the past 10 years, I have tended to work against the expected forms of the textile block print.  I have generally taken a modernist approach to representation– fracturing and cropping  images into  sequential compositions that declare their boundaries and resist the rhythm of pattern and the illusory infinity of the “repeat”.

After years of ornery resistance, however, I have finally succumbed to the allure of pattern, repeat, symmetry and tessellation.  Our most recent collection, Folkloric, takes elements from earlier Dermond Peterson designs and flips and flops and mirrors and repeats them; putting each through their tessellated paces.

In these designs it has been a great pleasure to tap into many aspects of textile history:  my swedish peasant roots, a long-standing admiration for the sly, accumulated synergy of color and pattern in the deft execution of seemingly simple quilt patterns…….

…. AND of course the rich history, ingenuity and influence of a multitude of   traditions from many eras and peoples and places. There is a strong connection to Anatolia (through the Dermond part of us) and the marvelous carpets upon which the pillows in the following photos are strewn come from that most wonderful part of the world!

Welcome to our new website and the Dermond Peterson blog ! There will be three of us contributing:  Sandra Dermond and Susan Peterson, co-founders of Dermond Peterson, and Claire Dermond, adding a new generation’s take on design, blogging and shopping. We each have different art and design backgrounds, ideals and influences.  The goal is for this blog to be an open, thought-provoking dialogue that generates an on-going conversation between the three of us and you, our readers and customers.

Our new site features bigger and better images, more intuitive navigation, and separate wholesale and retail sections. In addition to the new Shop section, another feature we are especially proud of is our new Store Locator, designed to help you locate retail stores in your area. We are looking to our new website to enhance and complement our relationships with our retailers. Using the Store Locator, it is now easier than ever for retail customers to find our products in a local store or via our retailers websites.

We’re very excited about this new transition from being just wholesalers to having direct contact with the folks who actually bring our products into their homes and lives. We have wonderful relationships with our retailers, and look forward to cultivating similar relationships with our retail customers. Our Shop is currently offering a selection of our items that is also available in stores, but over time we will be developing new products that will only be available via the Shop. We’re looking forward to debuting several new lines of items that we haven’t been able to offer you previously. Be sure to check out the Shop soon; items change seasonally, so don’t wait!
